Staying in Albuquerque

July 16th, 2011

Well folks, we’ve decided to stay in Albuquerque for a few more years.  We’ve moved out of the apartment, which has improved my impression of the Land of Enchantment quite a bit. It was no secret that I hated the apartment and it was extremely hot, and there was no yard for the dogs.  Our new house has a yard, and A/C, and we’re quite comfortable here.  I’m starting my own photography business and hope to be busy with that very soon.  You can check out my website at http://hotchkissphoto.com/.  Let me know what you think, I’d love some feedback!  Anyways, below are some pics of the new house.  If you need our new address, email us!

November already?!

November 4th, 2009

I can’t believe it’s already November, time is just flying by! We’ve both been sick lately, unable to really kick this bug that’s going around. I got really sick and am still feeling crappy and Sam’s been teetering on something, not really giving into this nasty little bug yet. Even though we’ve been sick, we’re still getting stuff done–and by stuff I mean FUN stuff!

IMG_0986A couple of weeks ago we finally got around to staining and putting together the night stand/side tables for our bedroom that we bought before the wedding. I think they turned out greIMG_0993at! They look great in our room, we love them. They have drawers, too, so we can put all of the various bits and pieces of stuff we tend to collect on our tables away. For me it’s always lip gloss, hair ties, pens or pencils, phone, ipod….for Sam it’s cords, cords, cords and more cords. Oh, and cellphone, ipod, computer, headphones…etc. It turned out to be pretty easy. You sand, stain, let dry, sand stain, let dry again, sand again, stain again and let dry again, and then you do the same routine with the gloss finish.  I think this could be the beginning of lots of new furniture that we stain ourselves, now that it’s not so daunting!

IMG_1004We also found the time on Halloween to carve our pumpkins, which I am especially grateful for, because this is our second year carving pumpkins together and Sam’s are always really good–as you’ll see in the pictures. Mine is the one with the eyebrows…I think they both turned out great. And this year, we actually had trick-or-treaters, which was great! Last year, we lived in a house where there really weren’t any other houses, so we didn’t have any trick-or-treaters, and I’ve lived in that same house for 4 years and so I’d missed the whole handing out candy routine and seeing all of the kids in their costumes. We watched Interview with a Vampire because it’s as scary as I can handle! I hope you all had a great Halloween.

We had ouIMG_0991r first snow, too, which was somewhat unexpected, although very pretty.  I was sick in bed for most of the snowfall, but it was nice to watch it fall. And the dogs LOVE the snow. Poor Sam had to shovel all on his own. Oh well, I’m sure we’ll get plenty of snow and I’ll do my fair share of shoveling. This is our first Winter in this house, so it will be interesting to see how much snow we get and how we’ll manage it all. We have a driveway that slopes down towards the house, so I’m thinking we’ll have a time getting our car up and out sometimes–but we’ll see! I wonder if any of you have had snow where you are?

Anyways, that’s what we’ve been up to for the last couple of weeks. Thanksgiving is coming up, it will be here before we know it!
